SK hynix is making longer-term commitments a larger part of its memory business. In its October 28 results, the company said long-term agreements covered more than half of production capacity for 2027 and 2028. It also reported growth in HBM4 sales and server-oriented products. SK hynix third-quarter business results.
The capacity figure concerns future production commitments. It is not a measure of memory already delivered, and the release should not be read as assigning the entire figure exclusively to HBM4.
Allocation changes the buying problem
A multi-year agreement can give a manufacturer stronger demand visibility when deciding how much capacity to build. For buyers, it can provide a route to allocation while bringing obligations that differ from purchasing available inventory. The public announcement does not disclose individual contracts or their flexibility.
Our assessment is that infrastructure planning increasingly needs to connect accelerator reservations with memory supply schedules. Securing one component without the others does not create a usable server. Contracted future capacity also remains dependent on production execution and product qualification.
Follow fulfilment, not just commitments
The near-term test is whether the reported HBM4 ramp continues into accepted shipments. The longer-term test is whether future capacity arrives on the schedules customers planned around. Those records will show how much the agreements improve predictability; the headline percentage alone cannot establish delivery reliability or eliminate procurement risk.
