GlobalFoundries reported preliminary third-quarter results on November 4 with revenue of $1.899 billion, up 13% year over year. Wafer shipments rose 7% to 647,000 on a 300 mm-equivalent basis. The company attributed its changing mix partly to communications infrastructure and data-centre applications.

The results measure current production

Reported gross margin was 30.1%, compared with 24.8% a year earlier. These figures describe the current manufacturing business across applications and do not isolate revenue or margins from a single AI component.

Application growth differs from future capacity

The release also recaps earlier manufacturing agreements and investments in packaging, photonics and power technologies. Those projects have future production schedules, so their planned capacity should be separated from the quarter’s delivered wafers.

Manufacturing schedules remain important

The results provide evidence of current demand and manufacturing output. Subsequent qualification, capacity ramps and application-specific reporting will show how the planned infrastructure supports further computing growth.
